The Problem That Started It All

It Started With a Problem,
Not a Masterplan

AthliFly did not start as a brand idea. It started as a pattern I could not ignore.

During morning PT sessions in active service, I kept noticing the same thing: the harder we pushed, the more people dropped out โ€” not because they lacked discipline, but because they were hurting. Shin splints. Knee pain. Arch pain. The kind of discomfort that makes people conclude that running simply is not for them.

The soldiers who kept going were not always the toughest. Often, they were just the ones whose bodies had not yet been pushed past what they were ready to handle. That stayed with me.


So I Started Reading. A Lot.

I am not a physical therapist. I am not a professional running coach. What I am is someone who gets obsessive when something does not make sense.

After leaving active service, I spent a full year studying sports science, gait mechanics, footwear structure, and beginner training logic. Not influencer content. Not recycled marketing copy. Actual biomechanics and running research from books, institutions, and evidence-based sources.

Somewhere in that process, the real gap became obvious: most beginner running content online is either too generic to be useful or too technical to be readable. Nobody was doing the translation work.

AthliFly was built to do exactly that: take running science, strip out the noise, and turn it into something a real beginner can actually use.

Who Is Coach Fly?

Not a person. A standard.

By the late research phase, I had the papers, the injury patterns, and the footwear logic. What I needed was a filter strong enough to protect the reader from bad advice.

Coach Fly came out of that need. He is the editorial standard behind AthliFly โ€” built from biomechanics, gait logic, and one non-negotiable question:

"Does this protect the runner, or does it compromise them?"

If a shoe's geometry does not support the problem it claims to solve, it does not make the site. If a training idea ignores tissue adaptation, load progression, or beginner reality, it gets rewritten. No exceptions.


Who Is Rex?

Rex is not a mascot. Rex is the runner most websites fail.

He found AthliFly late at night, frustrated, sore, skeptical, and tired of being sold expensive solutions that were never built for his body in the first place. He has flat feet. He has probably failed Couch-to-5K before. He may already own a pair of shoes that looked great on YouTube and felt terrible by week two.

He does not trust brands. Honestly, he should not.

Every article on AthliFly has to survive Rex before it gets published. If the advice is too expensive, too vague, too advanced, or too detached from beginner reality, it does not pass.

AthliFly draws from peer-reviewed sports science, gait analysis, and running research โ€” not brand press releases.

Our work is informed by sources such as Jacquelin Perry and Judith Burnfield's gait analysis framework, Owen Anderson's running research, and academic institutions working in exercise and movement science.

When we evaluate a shoe, we look at structural geometry and mechanical logic: medial support, torsional behavior, rocker function, heel-to-toe transition, and whether the design actually matches the beginner problem being discussed.

When the science changes, we update. When a claim does not hold up, we say so. Even if it is popular. Even if it sells.
